Proportionality Limit

Definition
Diagnostic: if Wave 4 time exceeds 2.618 times Wave 2 time, the degree assignment is likely wrong.
Proportionality Limit in plain English
Waves come in different sizes, or 'degrees' — small waves nest inside bigger ones like Russian dolls — and the proportionality limit is a sanity check that the sizes make sense. The rule of thumb: if Wave 4 takes more than about 2.618 times as long as Wave 2, you've probably labeled the waves at the wrong degree, meaning you mismatched a small wave with a big one. It's like noticing one 'matching' sock is enormous — the mismatch tells you something's been sorted wrong. When time proportions get that lopsided, smart analysts go back and recount rather than trust the label.
