Orthodox Extreme
Elliott Wave Theory glossary · Core Axioms & Motive Wave Rules
Definition
The price level at which a ve-wave impulse pattern completes (the end of Wave 5), which may differ from the absolute price extreme on the chart.
Orthodox Extreme in plain English
Sometimes the 'official' end of a pattern isn't the same as the highest or lowest price you can see on the chart, and the orthodox extreme is the official end — the exact point where Wave 5 (the last push of a five-wave move) truly finishes. It's like a race where a runner crosses the finish line and then coasts a couple more steps: the finish line is what counts for the result, even though their farthest step was slightly past it. Analysts care because Elliott Wave rules are counted from that true finish, not from the eye-catching peak. Mislabeling the two can throw off your entire wave count.
