Rule 2 (Wave 3)
Elliott Wave Theory glossary · Core Axioms & Motive Wave Rules
Definition
Wave 3 is never the shortest of the three motive waves (1, 3, 5). Most often Wave 3 is the longest.
Rule 2 (Wave 3) in plain English
The three 'motive' waves are the ones that push the trend forward: Waves 1, 3, and 5. This rule says Wave 3 is never the shortest of those three, and in practice it's usually the longest and most powerful, the part of the trend where the crowd piles in and price moves fastest. If your labeling ever makes Wave 3 the runt of the group, the count breaks and must be redone. Think of a three-leg relay where the middle runner is the star, they may not always win by the most, but they're never the slowest.
