Definition
An agreement where each side yields something - the Great Compromise.
Compromise in plain English
A compromise is a deal where both sides give up something they want in order to reach an agreement everyone can live with — nobody gets everything, but everybody gets enough to say yes. It's like splitting the last slice of pizza instead of fighting over it. The famous Great Compromise settled a fight between big and small states over Congress: they created two houses, the House of Representatives (where population decides how many seats you get) and the Senate (where every state gets exactly two), so both large and small states felt fairly represented.
