Democracy in plain English
Democracy means the people hold the power to run their own government, usually by voting for leaders who make decisions on their behalf. Instead of one king or a small group deciding everything, ordinary citizens get a say through elections. It's like a class choosing its own representatives to speak for them, except it's an entire country deciding who makes the laws that affect everyone's daily life.
