Definition
A member of the House of Representatives; also, anyone elected to act for others.
Representative in plain English
A representative is a person chosen to speak and make decisions on behalf of a larger group, so everyone doesn't have to vote on every single issue. With a capital R, it usually means a member of the U.S. House of Representatives — one of the two halves of Congress, where each member is elected by people in their local district. More broadly, any elected official who acts for the voters is their representative. Picture picking one classmate to bring the whole class's concerns to the principal: that person represents you all.
