Imbalanced profile
Volume Profile Analysis glossary · Profile Shapes & Distributions
Definition
A Volume Profile that is skewed, elongated, or P/b-shaped rather than bell-curved; indicates one-sided control or unfinished auction and often precedes directional movement.
Imbalanced profile in plain English
If you chart how much volume traded at each price, a 'healthy' market often looks like a bell — a fat middle where most trading fairly agreed on value. An imbalanced profile is the opposite: stretched-out, lopsided, or shaped like a 'P' or 'b' instead of that balanced bell. That off-kilter shape means one side (buyers or sellers) was in control and the market never settled into agreement — an 'unfinished auction' — which often comes right before a strong directional move as price hunts for a fair value.
