Buying imbalance
Volume Profile Analysis glossary · Volume Profile Technicals
Definition
A footprint-chart pattern in which ask-side (buy-aggressive) volume at a price substantially exceeds adjacent bid-side volume; indicates net buying pressure at that price.
Buying imbalance in plain English
Every trade needs an eager buyer and an eager seller, but one side is often more aggressive — willing to pay whatever it takes right now. A footprint chart splits volume at each price into buy-aggressive (people grabbing shares at the higher "ask" price) versus sell-aggressive. A buying imbalance is when the aggressive buying at a price dwarfs the aggressive selling just next to it — a fingerprint that buyers were pushing hard there. Think of a concert ticket everyone's fighting to grab: the frenzy to buy tells you demand is strong at that spot.
