Exhaustion delta

Volume Profile Analysis glossary · Volume Profile Technicals

Definition

A single bar with extreme delta in the direction of an established trend but minimal price progression; signals likely reversal.

Exhaustion delta in plain English

Delta measures the tug-of-war on a single bar: how much more aggressive buying there was than selling (or vice versa). Exhaustion delta is when that tug-of-war goes to an extreme in the same direction a trend has already been running — a huge surge of aggressive buyers in an uptrend, say — yet price barely budges higher for all that effort. It's like flooring the gas pedal and the car only creeps forward: lots of fuel burned, almost no ground gained, a sign the engine is about to stall. When the last wave of buyers spends everything and can't push price up, it often means the trend is out of gas and a reversal is near.
