Open Drive
Volume Profile Analysis glossary · Auction Theory & Market Profile (TPO)
Definition
An opening in which price moves decisively in one direction from the opening print with minimal retracement. Signals trend-day potential.
Open Drive in plain English
The 'opening print' is simply the very first traded price of the session — the starting gun. An Open Drive is when price takes off hard in one direction right from that first print and barely looks back — almost no pullback, just a steady push. It's like a runner who explodes off the starting line at full speed and never eases up, which tells you one side (buyers OR sellers) came in with strong conviction. That's why an Open Drive is the classic early hint that today might become a big one-directional trend day.
