Profile migration
Volume Profile Analysis glossary · Value Migration & Reference Levels
Definition
The directional drift of successive sessions' POCs and Value Areas. Persistent upward (or downward) migration is a hallmark of a developing trend.
Profile migration in plain English
Profile migration is when the market's busiest price (the POC) and its fair-value zone keep sliding the same direction session after session — steadily up, or steadily down. Picture a beach umbrella you re-plant a little further down the sand every hour as the crowd drifts; if it keeps moving one way, the whole crowd is clearly heading somewhere, not just milling around. When each day's high-activity zone stacks higher than the last (or lower), that consistent drift is one of the clearest signs a real trend is building rather than the market just chopping sideways.
