Selling imbalance
Volume Profile Analysis glossary · Volume Profile Technicals
Definition
A footprint-chart pattern in which bid-side (sell-aggressive) volume at a price substantially exceeds adjacent ask-side volume; indicates net selling pressure.
Selling imbalance in plain English
A selling imbalance is a signal, spotted on a detailed "footprint" chart, that at one specific price the aggressive sellers massively outnumbered the buyers right next to them. Here "aggressive sellers" means people so eager to get out that they accept whatever price buyers are offering rather than waiting for a better one — that eagerness is what shows real pressure. Picture a concert where way more people are shoving toward the exits than toward the stage: the lopsided crowd tells you which way the energy is flowing. When selling this eager stacks up at a price, it flags genuine downward pressure on the market.
