Swing high/Swing low
Volume Profile Analysis glossary · Volume Profile Technicals
Definition
A local maximum/minimum in price, defined by bars with higher/lower extrema than neighboring bars.
Swing high/Swing low in plain English
A swing high is a spot on the price chart that pokes up higher than the bars right around it — a little local peak — and a swing low is the opposite, a little local valley that dips below its neighbors. Traders care because these peaks and valleys are the natural turning points where price ran out of steam and reversed, so they mark the highs and lows that matter. It's like tracing a mountain range on a map: you don't label every bump, just the summits and the dips between them, because those are the landmarks everyone navigates by.
