Trend day
Volume Profile Analysis glossary · Auction Theory & Market Profile (TPO)
Definition
A session with directional movement throughout, typically closing within 10%–20% of the session extreme; produces a thin elongated Volume Profile.
Trend day in plain English
A trend day is a session where the price picks a direction in the morning and basically marches that way all day, closing very near the high or low instead of drifting back to the middle. Picture a river flowing steadily downhill versus one sloshing back and forth in a pond — a trend day is the steady flow. Because price keeps moving and rarely lingers at any single level, the Volume Profile (a sideways bar chart showing how much trading happened at each price) comes out thin and stretched-out rather than fat in the middle.
