Dovetail Clinics is implementing a hybrid patient-tracking system. The hardware (predictive) has CPI = 1.0 and SPI = 1.0. The software (adaptive) has a velocity of 20 points, but the Product Owner just added 60 points of 'high priority' work. The project finish date is fixed.
What should the project manager do?
- Work with the Product Owner to identify lower-priority items in the backlog that can be removed to accommodate the new 60 points.
- Instruct the hardware team to finish two weeks early to give the software team more time for testing, while documenting the decision in the issue log.
- Ask the sponsor for a two-sprint extension to account for the new high-priority scope.
- Calculate the combined SPI to see if the overall project can still meet the fixed finish date.
