Zigzag
Elliott Wave Theory glossary · Complex Corrections & Combination Logic
Definition
A sharp corrective pattern (5-3-5) where Wave A is a ve-wave impulse, Wave B partially retraces Wave A, and Wave C is a ve-wave impulse that exceeds Wave A's extreme.
Zigzag in plain English
A zigzag is the sharpest, most jolting kind of correction — the market's quick, deep breath against the main trend, built in three legs labeled A, B, and C. Leg A drops hard (as a full five-part move), leg B bounces back partway but not all the way (a temporary relief), and then leg C drops hard again and pushes past where A ended. Picture a bouncing ball that falls, hops up briefly, then falls even lower than before — that lower-low is the zigzag's signature.
