Dependent Variable
GMAT glossary · GMAT
Definition
A variable whose value depends on other variables.
Dependent Variable in plain English
A dependent variable is the thing that reacts, its value is decided by something else. If you study more hours and your test score changes, the score is the dependent variable because it 'depends on' the hours. The classic way to spot it: it's the output you measure AFTER you change something else. In a formula like y = 2x, y is dependent because you pick x first and y just follows.
