Quantifier

GMAT glossary · GMAT

Definition

A word (all, some, no, every) that specifies how many members of a group satisfy a condition.

Quantifier in plain English

A quantifier is just a word that tells you HOW MANY of a group we're talking about, words like all, some, no, or every. It matters because arguments live and die on these words: proving that 'all cats have tails' takes way more than proving 'some cats have tails' (you only need one). Think of a teacher saying 'everyone failed' versus 'someone failed', same topic, wildly different claim. On the GMAT, swapping one quantifier for another is a classic trap, so read them like hawks.
