U.S. Naturalization Test (2025 Standard) glossary · Course Foundations
Definition
To gather in a group - a First Amendment freedom.
Assemble / assembly in plain English
To assemble simply means to gather together in a group, and "freedom of assembly" is your right to do that peacefully, like holding a rally, protest, or public meeting. It's protected by the First Amendment, which lists key freedoms the government can't take away. The idea is that people are stronger when they can come together to share ideas or push for change, so no government leader can ban you from peacefully meeting up just because they dislike your message.
