Definition
A country's official representative to other countries.
Diplomat in plain English
A diplomat is a person your country officially sends to represent it in another country — negotiating deals, passing along messages between governments, and helping their own citizens abroad. Think of them as your nation's official messenger and dealmaker living overseas, like an ambassador. They matter because a lot of peace, trade, and cooperation between countries happens through these representatives talking to each other instead of nations fighting. In the U.S., diplomats work under the President and the State Department to carry out foreign policy.
