The highest price at which a market maker will buy.
Bid Price in plain English
A "market maker" is a professional firm that always stands ready to buy from you or sell to you, so trades can happen instantly instead of waiting for a matching person. The bid price is the highest price that firm is currently willing to PAY to buy something from you. Think of a shop that buys used phones: the bid is the most they'll hand you for yours right now — if you want to sell, that's the price you get.
