Body (Spread)
Volume Price Analysis glossary · Validation Vs. Anomaly (Spread & Volume)
Definition
The distance between the open and close of a candlestick; represents the net directional commitment.
Body (Spread) in plain English
Each candlestick on a price chart shows four things for a time period: where price opened, where it closed, and its high and low. The "body" is the thick rectangle between the OPEN and the CLOSE, and its length tells you how far price actually traveled from start to finish. A long body means one side (buyers or sellers) was firmly in control and pushed price a real distance; a tiny body means the tug-of-war ended roughly where it began, showing indecision.
