Equivolume
Volume Price Analysis glossary · Validation Vs. Anomaly (Spread & Volume)
Definition
A charting technique (developed by Richard Arms) that replaces the time axis with volume, creating boxes whose width represents volume and height represents price range.
Equivolume in plain English
On a normal chart, every bar covers the same slice of TIME. Equivolume throws that out and instead makes each bar's WIDTH show how much trading happened — heavy-volume days become fat wide boxes, quiet days become skinny ones (the height still shows the price range). It's like a photo album where busy, important days get big pages and boring days get thin ones, so activity jumps out at a glance. This lets you see instantly whether a price move happened on strong participation or barely anyone showing up.
