Effort
Volume Price Analysis glossary · Validation Vs. Anomaly (Spread & Volume)
Definition
In VPA terminology, the volume traded on a candle; should be commensurate with the candle's price result.
Effort in plain English
"Effort" is just a fancy name for how much trading activity happened on a bar — the volume, meaning how many shares or contracts actually changed hands. Think of it like the effort you put into pushing a stalled car: a big shove is a lot of effort. The whole point of watching effort is that it should MATCH the result you see in the price. If tons of trading happens (huge effort) but the price barely moves, something is off — someone big is quietly soaking up all that activity.
