Insider

Volume Price Analysis glossary · Validation Vs. Anomaly (Spread & Volume)

Definition

A general term for any market participant with privileged information or a structural advantage: market makers, specialists, large operators.

Insider in plain English

In Volume Price Analysis, "Insider" is a catch-all nickname for the big, professional players who have some edge over the ordinary crowd, whether that's better information, faster tools, or simply enough money to move the market. This includes market makers and large operators (the pros whose job is to buy and sell constantly and who can see order flow others can't). The whole idea behind VPA is to watch volume and price for the footprints these insiders leave, since their buying and selling is what really drives big moves. Think of them as the few people at the poker table who can glimpse everyone else's cards; you can't see their hand, but you can learn to read their bets.
