Higher Time Frame (HTF)
Volume Price Analysis glossary · Volume Price Analysis
Definition
The chart interval larger than the trading time frame; HTF analysis frames the dominant trend within which lower-time-frame VPA signals operate.
Higher Time Frame (HTF) in plain English
A chart can be sliced into different time chunks: each candle might represent one minute, one hour, or one whole day. The "Higher Time Frame" is just a zoomed-out view where each candle covers a bigger chunk of time, so you see the big-picture direction instead of every tiny wiggle. Traders check it first because a signal on a small time frame only really matters if it agrees with the larger trend. It's like checking the overall weather forecast for the week before deciding whether to trust the fact that it looks sunny right this minute.
