Order Flow
Volume Price Analysis glossary · Volume Price Analysis
Definition
The stream of buy and sell orders arriving at the market; the underlying mechanism whose footprint shows up as volume and delta.
Order Flow in plain English
Order flow is simply the real-time stream of every buy and sell order landing in the market, moment by moment. It's the actual cause behind everything else you see: when more money wants to buy than sell, prices get pushed up, and vice versa. Think of it as the water flowing through a river — you usually can't watch each drop, but you can read its "footprints" in the volume (how much traded) and the delta (whether buyers or sellers were the more aggressive side). VPA is basically detective work: reading those footprints to figure out which way the hidden flow is really pushing.
