Wide-Spread Up Bar (WSUB)

Volume Price Analysis glossary · Volume Price Analysis

Definition

An up candle with a body that spans most of the bar's range; combined with high volume, confirms genuine buying conviction.

Wide-Spread Up Bar (WSUB) in plain English

This is the mirror image of the down bar: an 'up bar' closed higher than it opened, and 'wide-spread' means it covered a lot of ground. A Wide-Spread Up Bar is a big, mostly-solid green candle where the price climbed strongly and closed near its high. By itself it's just a jump, but when it comes with high volume it confirms genuine buying conviction — real crowds of buyers pushed the price up, so the rally is more likely to be trusted rather than a fake-out. Same logic as a packed stadium roar: the heavy volume is the proof that the enthusiasm is real.
