Whitlock Software's Product Vision Board includes a 'Business Goals' section. One goal is: 'Increase annual revenue by $2M'. The team argues that they cannot track this within a single sprint.
How should the project manager guide the team?
- Inform the sponsor that the team is refusing to work toward the organization's financial objectives.
- Explain that business goals are long-term objectives that the team's short-term outcomes (Key Results) should eventually support.
- Direct the team to rewrite the goal so it can be fully achieved within the current two-week iteration, after reviewing the current risk register entries.
- Remove the goal from the Vision Board to avoid demotivating the team with unachievable targets.
