Grayling Software is developing a mobile app. The team is using 'Story Points' for Job Size in their WSJF calculations. A new Lead Developer suggests that since she is 20% faster than the previous lead, all 'Job Size' estimates in the backlog should be reduced by 20%.
How should the Project Manager respond?
- Ask the Product Owner to recalculate the Cost of Delay to offset the reduction in Job Size.
- Update the backlog estimates immediately to ensure the WSJF scores reflect the new, higher throughput, while documenting the decision in the issue log.
- Explain that Story Points are a measure of relative effort and complexity, not absolute time, and should remain independent of individual developer speed.
