Candlestick
Volume Price Analysis glossary · Climactic Price Action & Reversal Dynamics
Definition
A price representation showing open, high, low, and close for a given period, with a body and wicks.
Candlestick in plain English
A candlestick is just a tidy little picture that packs four facts about one time-slice of trading into a single shape: where the price started (open), where it finished (close), and the highest and lowest points it touched in between. The fat middle part, called the body, stretches between the open and close, while the thin lines poking out the top and bottom (the wicks) reach up to the high and down to the low. Think of it like a daily weather bar: the body tells you the overall mood from start to finish, and the wicks show how hot or cold it briefly got. Traders love candlesticks because one glance tells the whole story of a period instead of a single boring dot.
