Selling Climax
Volume Price Analysis glossary · Climactic Price Action & Reversal Dynamics
Definition
The climactic selling by insiders at the top of an advance, characterized by shooting star candles with ultra-high volume.
Selling Climax in plain English
After a long price rise, the big professional players quietly dump their shares onto eager latecomers who are still buying — a burst of frantic selling right at the top. On the chart this shows up as huge volume paired with candles that spike up but get slammed back down (shooting stars), meaning price tried to go higher and got rejected hard. Think of insiders handing off hot potatoes at the party's peak: the extreme volume is the crowd grabbing them, and it often marks the end of the climb and the start of a fall.
