Shooting Star
Volume Price Analysis glossary · Climactic Price Action & Reversal Dynamics
Definition
A candlestick with a small body near the low and a long upper wick; signals weakness (rejected higher prices).
Shooting Star in plain English
A shooting star is a single candle with a small body sitting near its low and a long spike sticking up above it — meaning price shot up during that period but got knocked all the way back down before the close. That long upper wick is the story: buyers tried to push higher and sellers overpowered them, rejecting the higher prices. Imagine jumping to grab a high shelf and instantly getting shoved back to the floor — that failed reach is the warning sign that upward momentum is weakening and price may turn down.
