Definition
A condition in which price and Cumulative Volume Delta disagree — e.g., price makes a new high while CVD makes a lower high. Signals weakening conviction in the price direction.
Divergence (CVD/price) in plain English
A divergence is when two things that USUALLY move together start disagreeing — a warning that something's off under the surface. Here, price might poke to a new high, but the Cumulative Volume Delta (the running total of aggressive buying minus selling) fails to make a new high — meaning price is climbing without fresh buying muscle behind it. It's like a car still rolling forward while the engine noise fades: the momentum driving it is quietly running out, so that new high may not hold. Traders treat this mismatch as a hint that the current move is losing conviction and could stall or reverse.
