Definition
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics' monthly employment report, released the first Friday of each month at 08:30 ET. A top-tier market event.
NFP (Non-Farm Payrolls) in plain English
NFP is the US government's monthly headcount of how many jobs the country added or lost (not counting farm workers), published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on the first Friday of each month at 8:30 a.m. New York time. It matters enormously because jobs signal how healthy the economy is, so this one number can jolt stocks, currencies, and bonds within seconds of release. Think of it as the economy's monthly report card that the whole financial world stops to read at the same instant. Because prices can swing violently right at 8:30, many traders either brace for the chaos or stay out until the dust settles.
