LVN (Low Volume Node)

Volume Profile Analysis glossary · Profile Anatomy & Volume Nodes

Definition

A price level within a Volume Profile at which little volume has transacted. LVNs tend to produce rapid traversal when approached.

LVN (Low Volume Node) in plain English

A Volume Profile is a sideways histogram showing how MUCH trading happened at each price level — fat bars where lots of shares changed hands, skinny bars where almost none did. A Low Volume Node is one of those skinny bars: a price where hardly anyone agreed to trade, meaning nobody wanted to hang around there. Because there's no "crowd" at that level to slow things down, price tends to zip straight through it, like a car speeding across an empty stretch of highway with no traffic. Traders watch LVNs because when price approaches one, it often accelerates rather than stalls.
