Profile Value Area
Volume Profile Analysis glossary · Profile Anatomy & Volume Nodes
Definition
The range of prices within a Volume Profile containing a specified percentage (typically 70%) of total volume, centered on the POC.
Profile Value Area in plain English
The Value Area is the price band where the bulk of trading happened — usually the middle 70% of all the volume — sitting right around the busiest price (the POC). Think of it as the market's "comfort zone," the range where buyers and sellers spent most of their time agreeing on a fair price, while the thin edges above and below are prices they only briefly tested. It's useful because traders treat inside the Value Area as "fair" and the edges as decision points: price often bounces around within it and reacts sharply when it tries to leave.
