Range Profile
Volume Profile Analysis glossary · Profile Anatomy & Volume Nodes
Definition
A Volume Profile constructed over a consolidation range or bracket rather than a time-based session.
Range Profile in plain English
A Volume Profile is a sideways bar chart showing how much trading happened at each price — the longer the bar, the more shares or contracts changed hands there. A Range Profile is that same chart, but built only over a stretch where price was stuck bouncing inside a tight band (a "consolidation range") instead of over a fixed clock period like one day. You use it when the market is going nowhere fast, because it reveals which price inside that band drew the most action. It's like studying only the crowded aisle of a store during a slow afternoon, rather than tracking the whole mall by the hour.
