Volume Profile Analysis glossary · Profile Anatomy & Volume Nodes

Definition

The range of prices within a Volume Profile containing 70% of the volume, bounded by VAH (Value Area High) and VAL (Value Area Low).

VA (Value Area) in plain English

The Value Area is the price zone where most of the action happened — specifically the band of prices that soaked up 70% of the day's trading volume. Think of it like the section of a stadium where 70% of the fans are packed in: it shows where buyers and sellers agreed the price was fair and did most of their business. Its top edge is called VAH (Value Area High) and its bottom edge VAL (Value Area Low), so prices inside are 'accepted' as fair while prices outside were only briefly visited.
